Amalia Pica – Kings Cross
Sempahores, 2019
The White Wall Company designed, fabricated, and installed artist Amalia Pica ‘Semaphore’ sculptures, currently in situ in Granary Square, Kings Cross Estates. The three artworks form a sight line, invoking reference to the chains of Semaphore Telegraph Towers which were a Napoleonic era forerunner of 21st century data networks.
The ‘Chappe Telegraphs’ installed on the rooftop of The Lighterman gastropub and the R7 building are kinetic sculptures programmed to communicate using Semaphore. Screen printed signs are located in Granary Square to provide a guide to the code.
