Anya Gallaccio – Whitworth Gallery, Manchester
Untitled, 2015
Fabrication and installation of the first permanent sculpture by Anya Gallaccio. The artwork is located beside the Stirling Wing extension of the Whitworth Gallery. The sculpture is the ghost replica of a dead tree that was removed from the same site during the building works.
The sculpture is formed of 12mm stainless steel plates designed as ribbons in complex geometry to match a scan of the previous tree. Each ribbon diverts into branches from a set of concealed nodal connections.Through initial engineering design, The White Wall Company mapped all CNC parts and weld procedures.
