The Centrifugal Soul, 2016

Production design and fabrication of the ‘The Centrifugal Soul’ zoetrope: a kinetic artwork made of a welded steel framework, CNC cut aluminium location discs, electronic and mechanical components, and hand painted 3D printed nylon. A central frame supports the artwork, which is powered by a 3 phase motor to trigger a strobe light sequence during rotation to create a visual effect of a static background but continuous motion of the 3D printed figures.

The artwork is designed as a component assembly to allow the exhibition to tour and be feasible to transport and install in highly sensitive Grade 1 listed areas. Safety protocols and barriers are included in the design to ensure the public can stand adjacent to the work whilst it is in operation. The White Wall Company carried out 3D printing and modelling of components alongside electrical engineering and mechanical assembly.
