Michael Rakowitz – Turner Contemporary

April is the Cruellest Month

A sculpture by the artist Michael Rakowitz is positioned in Margate as part of the 2021 England’s Creative Coast exhibition. The figure points towards Westminster. The statue is concrete, cast from a silicon and fiberglass mould. The mould was made using 5-axis milled foam produced from a live 3D scan of a veteran of the Gulf War. Artefacts submitted from war veterans across the Kent and the United Kingdom are embedded in the statue. The plinth is made of S275 Steel and screen printed concrete board.
