Michael Rakowitz – Fourth Plinth Commission

The Invisible Enemy Does Not Exist, 2019

Design, fabrication, and installation of Michael Rakowitz’s 4-metre high Lamassu; a sculpture of an ancient Assyrian deity.
The sculpture involves a carefully engineered steel armature, steel mesh cladding, and hundreds of pressed and cut date syrup cans imported from Lebanon and Iraq.

The artwork was transported to Trafalgar Square in a bespoke steel lifting framework and installed with a 60 tonne crane.
